Disseminating Focused Content in a Timely Manner: Use of Journal Supplements

Over the past year, the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) in conjunction with The Diabetes Educator (TDE) has worked diligently to spread the word and solicit journal content that affects the day-to-day work of diabetes educators. As we begin a new year, we are enjoying the fruits of our labor in the form of publishing the first of many journal supplements. A journal supplement is a compilation of articles that deal with a related issue or topic. Supplements are published as a separate issue of the journal or as part of a regular issue and usually funded by sources other than the journal's publisher. Use of supplements serve many purposes including disseminating focused content in a timely manner, providing translation of research findings, and improving cooperation between academic and corporate entities. In all instances, TDE's Editorial Advisory Board takes full responsibility for the policy, practices, and content of supplements.

With this issue of TDE, "Overcoming Barriers and Challenges to Glycemic Control: Insulin and Insulin Pump Therapy" is presented as the first of many supplements to be published in 2006. This supplement provides clinicians/educators with valuable information on how challenges can be overcome, with diabetes educators working together to provide support and improving care for individuals on insulin. The supplement is supported by an educational grant from Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, Inc and is based on a presentation made during the AADE 2005 annual meeting in Washington, DC.

As we begin a new year, the editorial team of TDE continues to work toward providing you with high-quality research articles that are clinically relevant for your practice. We will continue to make enhancements to TDE and provide a forum that advances diabetes care and education in diverse and changing environments. Let us know if there are particular topics you would like to see covered in future issues of TDE or focused content in supplements. We appreciate your observations and suggestions.
